Last week, I was in Brussels for the final review of the Chemomentum project. A very beautiful sunny week in the European metropole, one of my favourite city in Europe...

However, don't worry, the aim was clearly business, both for these days and for the future development of BioChemics...

Regarding the current goals of BioChemics, the review of Chemomentum project was very important: this is a very nice project, with very interesting results that should be exploited in BioChemics tools portfolio... Furthermore, in these crisis time, european commission financial support for innovation is even more important than usually...

And regarding the future of BioChemics, I met during this Brussels' week people both from the European Commission and from the European Parliament: a good way to develop our lobbying network, in order to prepare our European business development !!!

This workshop is set up by the Chemomentum Consortium. Chemomentum is an European R&D Project.

The aim of Chemomentum is to develop a middleware that allows the integration of different software in a unique environment, and to distribute calculations on different calculation centres, all around the world, without any problem of confidentiality and security.

This tool should more particularly be very useful for the bioactivity prediction field, increasing the efficiency of the bioinformatics tools.

One of the most important domain on which Chemomentum decided to focus is the REACH initiative. That is why the consortium has decided to propose a dedicated workshop to REACH and alternative methods.

First, an overview of REACH and of the status of alternative methods for REACH will be given, focusing also on the paradox between the Cosmetic Directive and REACH.
Then, computational tools for REACH will be underlined:
- the potential applications and consequences of the use of (Q)SAR for REACH initiative;
- the ways to increase the efficiency of in silico tools;
- examples of applications of in silico tools to tackle REACH issues.

For those interested in issues such as alternative methods, REACH, bioinformatics, bioactivity prediction, etc... You have to save the date : September 12th, a European Workshop "REACH initiative - alternative methods" will occure in Orléans, at the French Commercial and Industrial Chamber, organised by BioChemics and Chemomentum consortium.

This will be a very good opportunity to get informed about these issues, listening to world-class conferences delivered by experts among the best in the world about these themes...

More details within a few days or weeks....

BioChemics has finally delivered two applications, Adaptative Fuzzy Partition and Genetic Algorithms, to be inserted into the Chemomentum middleware. These applications are high efficiency in silico tools providing the opportunity to build classification models for the prediction of chemical compounds' bioactivity.

the aim is to test the procedure of integration of new commercial software into the Chemomentum platform. Of course, as these applications are commercially exploited by Biochemics, their free use is strictly restricted to the Chemomentum partners, but they would be sold mentionning the opportunity for the customers to increase their efficiency using Chemomentum !

This week, an Open Day about Chemomentum is organised in Tartu, Estonia, by Uko Maran and Sulev Sild. The aim is to disseminate the results of Chemomentum to a large community of users, presenting a demo and conferences to the attendees.

The two days before that Open Day, a technical meeting is organised, also in Tartu. The aim is to check the status of each deliverable. For a few reasons, BioChemics will not be present at this meeting, but will participate by sending videos in which its point of view about the project is explained.

Dears colleagues, have a nice meeting and see you soon !

IAB-meeting.JPG Jérôme and I have been in Milan for three days for an European Project Management and Technical meeting.

The Mario Negri Institute welcome us for this conference. All the partners of the consortium are represented.

The aim is to check the progress of the work, and to discuss the project next steps.

More particularly, for BioChemics, it is a way to introduce Jérôme inside the consortium, as he is now in charge of the technical aspects, and to have a global vision of the progress of WorkPackage 5, Dissemination and Exploitation, as we are in charge of it.

This afternoon is dedicated to the Industrial Advisory Board : representatives from industrial companies are present to give us their feedbacks about the project.

Even if BioChemics was not be present in Cracow for the Cracow Grid Workshop, parts of Chemomentum were presented to the scientific community as it is explained on Bernd Schuller's blog.

A very good way to disseminate the Chemomentum results to the scientific community.

Juelich is a beautiful little town next to Cologne and Dusseldorf, where is located one of the most important research centers in Germany : the Forschungzentrum Juelich.

The story is that this research center was created just after the world war II, and nuclear reactors were built. Of course, these ones couldn't be located next to a big city, and Juelich was chosen because there were a lot of forests around that city !

That is why such an important research center is now located next to a quite small town (20000 inhabitants).

That is the place that had been choosen for the Chemomentum technical meeting.
It was the opportunity to discuss about technical items, but most of the time was dedicated to the discussion about the dissemination, exploitation and collaboration plan.
Next steps for these issues are now clear, and we are working on that !

Next meeting for Chemomentum will be organised in Milan, by the end of November...

As you can see, it is always a pleasure to meet each other !
